[L-USA] Merry Christmas

From: Daniel Servatius (elf@pclink.com) | Date: 1998-12-25 13:35:09 UTC-06:00
Just a brief note to wish all of you a nice Christmas whether you take time to
celebrate it or not. Letterbox issues are going rather slow right now as I
imagine most of you are busy with other things, or, like
me, are just taking it easy. But in any case, in the best or worst of it, do
have some peace with and around you this holiday season. And thank you all very
much for being part of this little diversion and most of all for letting me know
you better.

Take care,
Dan'l

Dear Dan.

Thanks very much for the Christmas wishes. I echo them to other list
members; it has been very nice to get to know so many of you.

Thanks to you particularly, Dan, for all your work in making our
discussions and postings possible.

Things have been a little quiet of late, with all of us busier than
usual at this time of year. There won't be too many new boxes going
out at over the next few months, at least not in the northeast. Will
we find things to talk about in the interim? (Kind of like parents
facing each other across the table, after their children have left
home.)

Best to all,

Tom

Happy Holidays to you, too, Dan! And also to all of the other folks who
spend their valuable time advancing Letterboxing in the USA. Best wishes
to you all!

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.

December 26 is the 360th day of the year in the Gregorian Calendar,
361st in leap years. There are 5 days remaining.

Boxing Day in the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia

The second day of Christmas in Western Christianity.

St. Stephen's Day, a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland and Czech
Republic

First day of Kwanzaa

Feast day of Saint Stephen (in the western Christian church), holiday in
Croatia.

Independence Day in Slovenia

The RETURNS on BAD XMAS Gifts day.

I am guessing here ;) Am I right?

PS. I know. I know. No one likes a Smart A.. but it hat to be done.

While we have Letterboxing on our minds, others had a different kind of
Boxing altogether:

The day after Christmas Day is known as Boxing Day, after the tradition of
opening the alms boxes placed in churches
over the Christmas season. The contents were distributed amongst the poor of
the parish. December 26 is also known
as the Feast of St Stephen. It is often a day of outdoor sports and horse
racing and hunting. Only in the last century
however has it become a holiday. By having Christmas Day and Boxing Day as
holidays this allowed many people to
take trips but also rejoin family members, which may have encouraged the
tradition of families getting together at
Christmas time.

God Bless

Fun! Thanks for all the little factoids on this cheerful, cozy day!
Most of them I knew already, but didn't know all the details.

Cheers to all, and to all a good night!
